Breaking news: a machine has been developed that turns children’s books into reality. This was the first sentence of an actual news article in the Times yesterday:

Lou the mule brayed his way into his owner’s heart with a New Year’s warning that her rural Tennessee home was on fire.

And it gets better.

Jolene Solomon says the mule saved her life by alerting her to the attic blaze so that she could get out of the house before it burned down…Solomon said her father bought Lou years ago to help her and her late sister, Blue, around the farm.

Jolene! Her name is Jolene! Her sister’s name is Blue, for God’s sake, and she lives on a farm with her magical mule!
