The December 31st Tweet Of Salmaan Taseer

The December 31st tweet of Salmaan Taseer, who was shot dead by one of his own bodyguards today. Taseer – who was governor of Punjab and an outspoken secular politician – was shot at least nine times by Mumtaz Qadri, member of an elite police force tasked with protecting Pakistani politicians. Taseer’s death comes at the worst possible time for the ruling Pakistan People’s Party, which lost its majority at the weekend. The killing comes just three years after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.

Well, terror returned to Chez Virus this afternoon, when I decided to have a nap after becoming more sad while listening to my soccer football team Celtic lose the title to our arch enemy “The Sith”. Yes – I had a horrific nap-mare.

Micheal Weiner, a.k.a. Micheal Savage, engineer of Rockstar energy drink and father of Rockstar Energy Drink CEO, Russel Weiner (insert thinly veiled hint towards boycott here), has declared the best way to avoid the outbreak of Swine Flu is “No contact anywhere with an illegal alien!”

He continues: ““And that starts in the restaurants” where he said, you “don’t know if they wipe their behinds with their hands!”

Weiner, or Savage, is even stirring up a rumor tornado, claiming that Mexican Immigrants infected with Swine Flu are being used as a germ warfare weapons by terrorists.

Fucking. Lunatic.

Lizzie sold a fuckton of newspapers with this bad boy.

The blade began its descent on a Tuesday afternoon, and it’s still falling. We all filed into the empty space where an ancient Linotype press had roared and spit out our newspaper twenty years earlier, before it was replaced with a sleeker off-site model.

Some of us were about to be similarly decommissioned, but nothing, least of all something newer or more efficient, would take our places. Eight percent cuts, they told us, so a handful of workers at our small newspaper could either step forward and volunteer for a severance package, or be forcibly laid off with the same benefits. A more generous offer, on the whole, than a lot of staffers in our industry were receiving.
