Moth Upon My Sink
August 20, 2012 in Wordsmoker Poetry
Goodbye little moth
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While the flies around you crawled
They crawled out from dried cat food
And they whispered out your name
Said you were no good
That all moths were the same
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a moth upon my sink
Never knowing what the cups were
Or really what to think
And I would’ve liked to have known you
But you’re a moth, still
Your life ended this morning
The dishes never will
Being a moth was tough
Rough amongst the breakfast, made
The window pulled you way too far
And drowning was the price you paid
Even as you died
How the taps surrounded you
And all the cats thought
Your way-out seemed so crude
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a moth upon my sink
Never knowing what the cups were
Or really what to think
And I would’ve liked to have known you
But you’re a moth, still
Your life ended this morning
The dishes never will
Goodbye little moth
Though I never knew you at all
You had the grace to hold yourself
While the flies around you crawled
Goodbye little moth
From a man who took your death as a blow
Who saw you as something more than dust
More than just a life within a flow
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a moth upon my sink
Never knowing what the cups were
Or really what to think
And I would’ve liked to have known you
But you’re a moth, still
Your life ended this morning
The dishes never will,
Your life ended this morning
The dishes never will
