5 Second Movie Review: The Iron Lady

January 14, 2012 in 5 Second Movie Review

There were several points throughout this movie that I thought to myself, "Oh my god, I forgot that's Meryl Streep!" Looks like another Best Actress for your mantle, darling.

She has a habit of doing that. I have a British friend here who thinks Maggie was the last good leader of the UK. She will be the first in line to see this. I will be in the middle part of the end of the line and if I don’t get in I will watch it on Direct TV in a couple of years. Just saw “Salt” last night. That’s a thriller! The ending didn’t make any sense because the President will be able to verify that Salt was the good guy when he wakes up and she didn’t have to jump in the cold Potomac. But it was okay.

I have a Scottish friend, who you may happen to know, who says that he will piss on her grave when she dies. I believe that’s what it was.

I saw this movie because I was too late to catch Contraband. My issue with the movie is that there is way too much footage of a dotty octogenarian Thatcher skulking about the house and not enough footage of her ascent to power or her time at 10 Downing. The whole film is shot as flashbacks from Thatcher’s memory (which means that there isn’t a scene that she’s not in). But just when you become interested in how she handles being bullied in Parliament or her dealing with Falkland crisis, you’re sucked back to her depressing hallucinatory modern life.

This was a showcase for M.S.’s infinite talents, but it fell short of being a compelling cinematic achievement. It’s a shame because, like her or not, she was an interesting person and a groundbreaking woman.

@ Chillbear Latrigue: Did you see “Salt?” I am always two years behind. Nobody wants to talk about them by the time I see them.

    Belltolls,

I do not do the TV thing anymore. I am in the same boat.

    Like.

@ Belltolls: I had heard what you’re saying from other people, so I skipped it. What the hell kind of name is “Salt” anyway?

@ Chillbear Latrigue: I bet the screenwriter is wishing he had gone with his first choice: “Tabasco.”

I FUCKING TOLD YOU! Meryl won Best Actress AGAIN! I love her to pieces, but it’s not even a fair race. I personally wanted the chick from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo to win. Merf.

I have a Kraut friend here who thinks Adolph was the last good leader of Germany.
