Book Fight Club: Our Next Book is…

June 30, 2011 in Wordsmoker Book Club

We will be reading Skippy Dies by Paul Murray. It’s 672 pages of pleasure. This means we are going to have to buckle down and read. Every time I was thinking of posting about our next book some sort of shit was going down here and I thought, “Well, that’d be weird to just bust on in and yell, Don’t forget about Book Fight Club, bitches!” So I waited. Because I hate to be the weirdo in the room that everyone’s like, Gahd! What a selfish whore. It’s all about her and her needs. We’ll set the date for Tuesday, August 9 at 9pm EST. See you there.

Are you talking about Micro-Fiction Roundup? It does get pretty contentious, but I think you would have been fine.

I think it would be funny if everyone read this book only to come to Book Fight Club and thinly veil their grievances by making references to this book, BUT NO ONE REALLY DO THAT, PLEASE!

So I know I keep saying I might read the next book and then the next one. Well you finally found one that I really want to read. However I will be 100 miles out it in the Gulf of Mexico on August 9. That is one hundred miles as in no freaking internet so you all have fun. I am beginning to think you are doing this on purpose just to spite me.

Oh, goodie! Even though Love Like Hate would have been so thematically resonant….

I just looked up Love Like Hate on Amazon, and also found this. So, you know, for next time.

    @ fuldis closure:
This is the best review ever (and the only one of 85 reviews for the VHS version of this instructional video that is below 4 stars:)

“I bought this video because I wanted to practice on the days I did not have class. To me it is very, very basic beginner instruction. I give it three stars because its perfect for someone new to tap. The pace is slow and easy, but really not much of a workout like the title implies it will be. If you have any experience at all then I wouldn’t recommend it, it’ll be too easy for you. The only angle you get is looking at the teacher from the front, which is a little weird because she’s doing the steps on the opposite foot than you are. Instead of following her its like you are looking into a mirror. Overall though, its good instruction and enjoyable. She has a way of making you feel like you’ve accomplished something by the way she talks, which is nice. “

On an related note, I once met a sixty year-old woman who had taken the same Level One tap class over and over again for twenty years. She had even converted the garage into her tap studio. I’m not making this up.

Err, that last paragraph shouldn’t have been italicized. That was me talking, not the reviewer.

    @ Latterday Lenin:
I love that they are almost all 4 star reviews! It reminds me for some reason, of how that kid in Fargo had the poster on his bedroom wall: Accordian King!
Not that there’s anything wrong with tap OR accordian, or that they are inherently funny in case I’m offending anyone. Fine, they are inherently funny, sorry. Whatever, all I know is I HATE TO READ, I LOVE TO TAP.
