Sarah Palin Urges America To Get With The Pogrom

January 12, 2011 in The Arizona Killings

Sometimes you hear or read something so fucking out of the blue that you almost lose consciousness and begin to fall down slowly and the only thing that supports you is a helpful cat. Sometimes you hear or read something which is so obviously the wrong thing to say – said during the exactly wrong time – that you worry about going through life only kept conscious by helpful cats. It surely can’t be any coincidence that a lot of these things are uttered by Sarah Palin.

Poor Sarah Palin. She never wanted any of this. She never wanted any of her ridiculous fucking statements squeaked from her stupid fucking mouth over the past two years to be used against her.

She – and the people behind her who put her prepared statements into her shitbubble brain – are surely the innocents.

Can somebody please explain her use of “blood libel” to me? I know she wouldn’t have come up with it herself. I know it comes from secret-squirrel Republican talking-points being dripped during the past three days.

But. Why?

*loses consciousness*

I told you, it comes from when Bristol introduced her to The Situation and she thought he said he was from the “Jersey Shoah.”

Virus: It has caught on, that term “blood libel” though I only heard Palin use it once in this appeal to American citizens imploring that we see that she is being slandered by those who imply that her policies had any influence on the violence in Arizona. She does not bring the topic up again until the very end when she references “finger pointing”. In the past couple of days however I have heard reasonable people voice the opinion that Palin bears no accountability. That, as she says here when she quotes St. Reagan, a society should not be held accountable for the acts of an individual.

I used to be in charge of the gift shop at my synagogue and I bought a shitload of those flag pins and no one’s bought one. Just a dollar, folks. Anyone?

Now, thanks to this video, we know that our Sarah is actually the twenty-first victim of this tragedy. Just you, Christina Green, et al, eh, Sarah?

Sarah Palin’s video is one of the most classless things that I’ve seen since… I think that I would have to go all the way back to yesterday when I was watching various conservative pundits high five one another over the fact that the mass murder in Arizona couldn’t be pinned on them. It was almost as though they found a wonderful silver lining to the slaughter of innocent people.

Please fuck off now, Sarah, and let the families of these people grieve.

I think “Blood Libel” is the new Sylvester Stallone movie. Or the new Ben and Jerry’s flavor.

When this news item appeared earlier today, what I optimistically refer to as my consciousness scanned the words as “Black Label.” So I waited until the cocktail hour to read it.

I see now. It’s all the Jews’ fault. I am shocked. L’chaim.

She is inferring that she has been falsely accused of heinous crimes the same way that Jewish populations have been accused by Christians throughout history. The comparison is a great insult to generations of people who have been persecuted and exploited because of faith and their culture. She is not laying blame on Jewish people, if anything she is looking to play the victim by referencing how the innocent, like herself, can be painted as villain by the mob.

    @ GeodeJane:
I’m pretty sure that people understand what you were trying to explain. Writing (and reading) the obvious only makes it all the more ridiculous that she would even attempt to draw some analogy from true Blood Libels to whatever it is she’s going through.

Blood Libels were meant to instigate pogroms. They were not needed to instigate pogroms, there were already other occasions that called for them, like Christmas, but it was another way to achieve one.

Google image search “pogrom” and see what it was about. Being talked about by Chris Matthews on TV at 7:00pm doesn’t quite measure up.

Wait. What? So the Jews put the blood of Gaby Gifford’s head wound in Sarah Palin’s matzoh? I’m confused.

“I listened, with sadness” *smile* “to the irresponsible statements…”

She is the worst script-reader I’ve ever seen. This whole video is just so much political theater, and makes me like her even less, which I did not think possible.

I’m impressed by the depth of the hole that Palin is digging for herself, especially since the permafrost is really hard up there this time of year.

Right. There goes her support from the Jewish community.

I have never seen Chris Matthews on TV because I rarely watch television so I cannot appreciate the reference. I am familiar with antisemitism because my father was raised by staunch Catholics during the papacy of Pope Pius XII. Children were taught that the Jews killed Christ when he was a boy. Ironically he married a woman from one county over who was in search of her father’s history. My mother’s father died when she was twelve and she never knew his family. She remembered that he spoke Polish though. I think I was ten when she brought home the menorah. Its long story where I grow up outside New York City among poor immigrants of many faiths and nationalities. After my father died my mother married a Jewish man and the second half of my life has been as part of a large Jewish tribe . Then there is my husband who’s father was Jewish. While neither my mother or my husband are technically Jewish, Jewish people are my family and I have great respect for their history which I have taken time to study.
I am familiar with the pogroms.
We are in agreement that she is a ridiculous woman. She is also blatantly ignorant yet disturbingly popular. If her ilk continue to become powerful in America we are a whole new kind of fucked.

Per Bill O’Reilly last week, she has 25% of the vote but you need at least 50% to get elected. She will stay being a celebrity and make “zillions of dollars.”

    @ uncivilly obedient:
I meant to address you in the previous post. Also, my mother was five when her father died, (not twelve) which explains why he was a mystery to her. I was confusing her history with my father’s story.

I’m not so sure. Someone — I can’t remember who, and I’m not scrolling back a hundred posts to find it — Tweeted, “Wow — After this morning, I didn’t think it was possible for Palins speech to seem smaller and more petty.” I’m hearing a lot of that in the post-speech chat-shows. I think the mainstream Republicans who’ve wanted her gone for a while because she’s so clearly unstable smell blood in the water, and are moving to remove this beam from their eyes.

I think this is the nail in her political coffin. At least I hope it is. Between her reality show ending and this tone-deaf screed she can’t possibly be seen as a viable anything anymore.

Noticing that no one else has gotten to this first, I thought I’d just pop in to say “Reince Preibus.”

Why? Because it’s a funny name — funny to say. You try it. “Reince Preibus.”

    See? Funny!
