Video Captures Rand Paul Supporters Battering a Woman

The following video documents the brutal attack on what one has to assume was a peaceful protester:

Earlier tonight in Lexington, Kentucky, Rand Paul supporters wrestled a woman to the ground, tore off her wig and stomped on her head while she was on the ground. They did this because she threatened to embarrass Paul by handing him a mock employee of the month award for a fictitious corporation, as he stepped out of his limo. Lauren Valle, the victim, is a member of MoveOn.org, the political action group that invented “RepubliCorp” to represent the merger of the Republican Party with corporate business interests.

A message to the felons captured in this video: You are criminals; you are thugs; one or two of you may actually be sociopaths. If you did this in my jurisdiction, you would be rounded up, tried and prosecuted on the weight of the evidence in this video. I can only hope that the investigators in Lexington are as good as the ones with whom I work. If you have any shred of decency, you will save yourselves and your families any further shame and turn yourselves in. Your behavior is absolutely nauseating. If the Republican Party doesn’t denounce your crimes, then its moral bankruptcy exceeds the claims of its harshest detractors.

Readers: Please post this video to your page, especially if you reside in the Lexington area. Law enforcement may be looking for these men.

I am hearing an appeal tomorrow that is on the basis of new evidence. Someone was recording the event with their cellphone, and the entire nature of the incident changes for my role. In my case though, the appellant is still an idiot. In hers, I am glad that technology was so readily accessible. What a brave woman, if we, as reasonably intelligent people in contrast to the zombies in video, were brave enough to stand with her–they never would have gotten that far.

This is how the party of “compassionate conservatism” and “taking back America” works; they will take back America by brutalizing or shouting down anyone who does not agree with their perverted point of view. Rand Paul is like the Lizard King of them, an effete, self-aggrandizing posturer with delusions of competency. He has no idea what living in the real world is like, having suffered the indignity of being raised in Paultardia, a land where sunshine and rainbows and tax cuts fly out of everyone’s asses, and the poor are kept in the corner behind a screen painted like a mountain backdrop, so no one need know they exist.

If Rand Paul has a shred of decency, he will find these people and turn them over to the police. If he doesn’t, he’s an even bigger dirt-bag than I give him credit for being.

Is that what he did? I have no love for MoveOn.org. They rely much more on sensationalism than on actual facts (i.e. “Petraeus Betray Us”). However, they have a right to exist; their members have a right to protest; and people engaging in legal activities have the right to move about freely without being forced to the ground, having their breasts grabbed (whether intentionally or accidentally) and having their head stomped.

I read the police report about the Gladney incident and watched this video about the Owens finger-chomping episode. In the first case, the assailants were immediately arrested. In the second case, the finger-ectomy occurred in the course of a fight, but the biter got away. It didn’t seem to be a failure of law enforcement to act. However, the article may be accurate in that these two incidents were unreported. That could be the result of an unjust media that favors liberal victims over conservative ones, or it could also be the absence of a compelling videos.

In any event, the writer is an idiot for suggesting that this asshole merely stepped on her head. Also, you can call me old-fashioned, but I’m not okey with a group of men grabbing a woman and forcing her to the ground. Gender matters to me in these cases and if the roles were reversed, I probably wouldn’t be nearly as sympathetic.

I’ll probably be fired from my NPR gig later for saying that.

@CB: The video was horrible. He certainly didn’t “place(d) his foot on her head,” he stomped on her multiple times.

I don’t agree with the author’s explanation and excuse (if not justification) for the violence but it does flesh out the story a little more.

And Chillbear, you never really had the voice for NPR. They’ve been looking for a reason to get rid of you for years.

This new video shows Lauren Valle afterwards and gave me relief to know she didn’t suffer a subdural hematoma from that vicious stomping. She was clearly assaulted. If she WAS doing something wrong at all at the time the police would have stepped in. What kind of a men assault a woman with this kind of force? They had no place doing so and I do hope they will be severly punished.

One of my coworkers kept leaving obscure references to Whale Wars on my Facebook page. I messaged him to ask why the hell he kept doing it, and he asked me if I felt bad for the people who got hit with Japanese water cannons and other various apparatuses in their efforts to save the whales from slaughter. I replied that I did and didn’t, since sometimes they do things that border on piracy (don’t ask me for specifics, please, my hangover implores you). He responded by saying that I then should not feel bad for the woman in this video, as she was pretty much doing the same thing. I think it was the largest documented case of “WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU SMOKING, WHERE DID YOU GET IT, AND DO THEY GIVE GOVERNMENT DISCOUNTS?!” that I have ever had. I did my level best to explain that a woman peacefully protesting, albeit in a way that would ultimately (hopefully) embarrass the VIP, was a far cry from chasing down Japanese whaling ships and sabotaging their engines. He insisted she broke the law by ‘concealing her identity’ (wearing a wig); I told him I fully expected to see him fill our jail cells come Halloween night.
