5 Second Movie Review – Confessions Of A Shopaholic

July 31, 2009 in 5 Second Movie Review

As my father would say, this movie had absolutely no redeeming social value. If the chick’s gonna spend like a fiend, maybe she should buy some outfits that don’t look like two Carrie Bradshaw ensembles layered one on top of the other. Also, horrible script, terribly developed romance, and she somehow became a media darling after two successful articles. (And I’m pretty sure she never wrote any others.)

I give it two AmExes down.

(so, she doesn’t get nude in this? Ed.)

    Isla’s lovely bod-
    y garbed in monstrosities;
    unbelievable.

    Hollywood’s journalist-as-hero/heroine archetype is as dead as Deep Throat, and no one seems to notice.

    A friend suggested we see this movie when it came out, and that caused me to look at her a bit differently because I could not be forced to see this unless I were at gunpoint. I wanted to see “Milk.” We compromised on “The Wrestler.”

    Thanks for taking one for the team, Dahl.

    I don’t even see how this movie could NOT suck, really.

    I am slightly shamed, but I read this book when it came out and really enjoyed it, even reading one of the sequels. Sometimes all you want to do is read something that doesn’t make you think. Having said that, the movie looks awful.

    Miss: I share your shame; I enjoyed the book, and thought I would feel similarly about the movie. But honestly–no, just no. The romance comes out of nowhere, she becomes a news sensation out of nowhere, her clothing is awful, she does some reprehensible things, and frankly I love shopping too, but I curb it, because I’m poor, so, no sympathy.

    Vox: I haven’t seen The Wrestler but I’m sure you made the right call.

    Sigh…I admit I read the book, too, some years ago so I can’t really talk. Shame is best shared with others, I find.
    The Wrestler was good, but whoa – don’t bother with popcorn or other foodstuffs. It’s pretty graphic at points and not conducive to eating.
