Richard III meets The Patriot as told by Gossip Girl.
(Ladies: tune in for sweet, cute, young Chris Egan; stay tuned for hot, sexy, talented Ian McShane.)

    I tried to watch this show. Ian McShane is pretty much the gold standard for series television acting. However, the storyline was so contrived and I didn’t get the sense that I was being immersed in the world of the show, which I feel is critical for any “alternate reality” show to grow on me. It tried to be too character-driven in the two episodes I have been able to watch, and it came off as maudlin.

    I loved Ian McShane as Lovejoy

    And my “lovejoy” loves Ian McShane. I think this is a chocolate & peanut butter sort of situation. On a spaceship sort of location. Thing.

    @Vaq: you’re a dirty little thing, aren’t you?

    Ladies? Come on now, there are those of us who are curious. Not me, that is. I know I’d go for McShane…

    Lily, you beat me to the punch. I was going to post a review for Kings. I wasn’t interested in watching until I found out about the scifi element, or alternate-reality element, as TheHon called it. I will agree the first two episodes were a bit contrived, but I’ve been liking it well enough to continue, which is rare for me to do with a network show.

    The scene in episode three where the reverend skews the kings portrait just about floored me. I think the show is pretty well written, but I wish it had been developed for showtime.
