WELCOME TO THE TARANTULA CLUB

January 22, 2009 in The Tarantula Club

A lot of us have been waiting a long time, a dreadfully long time, to finally again have a tarantula friendly administration in the White House. As we all know, Washington

    Hay Senor Wences,
I love this film, I think you should really review another Cagney dancing gem, Yankee Doodle Dandy. Also. It is quite a bit of delicious to read adult takes on things that shaped my childhood.

For some reason James Cagney as a song and dance man has always been a bewildering juxtaposition for me. I guess I had a very solid concept of him as this ultimate tough guy. Like that kid in your neighborhood who carried a switch blade, stole cars, broke into houses and you just stayed the fuck away from him ’cause there were things going on in his head and you never knew what he was gonna do. And then you found out at his funeral that he wrote the most lovely lyric poetry and took care of abandoned cats and fed the poor…

@Vaq: I have kind of the same reaction to Christopher Walken as a song and dance man. But I wouldn’t imagine he’s very nice to cats.

I adore Busby! So much drinking and what an ass man!

@BC: Walken & cats. He has two. I think he keeps his watches in them.

@SMM: I agree – I watched Yankee Doodle Dandy just last week. I grew up watching Cagney sing and dance.

Not literally, of course. I was nowhere near him, and no-one can prove that I was. No matter what photographic “evidence” they might have.

Mr. Wences, your coverage of escapist movies will make the coming depression so much more palatable… even if it is brought to us on the backs of spiders. Veloce’!

@Senor Wences. If there was photographic evidence of my hanging with Mr. Cagney- I would have that made in to a Tshirt, worn stretched across my chest at least once a week.Yessir.

    @ Senor Wences

If you like tarantulas, definitely catch the 1970s Italian horror flick The Black Belly of the Tarantula. It is groovy and gorey and has TONS of female nudity.

@Bookish: Three cheers for female nudity!

  • BookishLookish

@ Wences Who doesn’t like nekkid ladies? Just ask my neighbor with the binoculars.

Favorite tarantula scene is James Bond, of course we now know how gentle they are but that scene turned them into killers with poison fangs.

  • bigleggedwoman

Very illuminating. I feel as though I was there.

(Quick aside: Them two tarantulas up top? They’re not fighting. Nope.)

SW: Two hairy things embracing? Nah, doesn’t do it for me. But then again, I’m a straight female. And I (still) wax.

  • http://wordsmoker.com/help/members-3/senorwences/ Senor Wences

@Lily Blue: Whatcha got against true love?

  • Lily Blue

@SW: True love is, well, lovely. I just have a problem with more than two hairy legs banging up against mine at any particular time. Now if you could get those tarantulas to invest in a full-leg wax (or multiple full-leg waxes) I might reconsider.

@Lily, perhaps your true love match is the Hawaiian coconut crab? Similar-ish build, no leg hair, and much, much bigger:

    Aw, dang it. Trying again:

There we go. There’s your fellah, Lily.

Shouldn’t that photo illustrate the Sexually Transmitted Disease Flow Chart Post?
