TV Soundtrack, Vol. 1
Published: October 16, 2009
I have a song in my head, and I really don’t want to be the only one. It’s been in my head since I heard it on Vampire Diaries, and it’s continued to linger in my brain, clawing at it and forcing me to buy it on iTunes. I’ve done everything it’s told me too, but still, it remains. And so, because its nails have really dug deep into my cranium now, I present it to you along with four other favorites of mine which have graced the background of some of television’s greatest* dramatic scenes in recent years. Enjoy!
Boom by Anjulie (the original offender)
U R A Fever by the Kills (Gossip Girl)
I Hear the Bells by Mike Doughty (Veronica Mars)
Ashes by Embrace (Veronica Mars)
The World Should Revolve Around Me by Little Jackie (90210)
*Not even remotely close to the greatest scenes in recent television history, except maybe the first Veronica Mars song, which is also probably the best song of the bunch. Also, I’ve omitted any renditions of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah because it’s been so overdone, but Rufus Wainwright+The OC=magic.

Totally agree on the bells song. I spent an hour looking for the music in a bank commercial yesterday. I understand.
@Bells: Was it the wonderful piano music in the back ground of a Bank of America commercial??? Because I have looked high and low for that music but I can’t find it!
@Misspeacock I hate to admit it but it was TWO bank commercials: Birdies in the Regions Bank comercial (la-la-la-la-la-) and Michelle Branch song Everything in the Chase Bank commercial. Its not like I have money in banks or anything. Too much TV.
i looooooved veronica mars! i was never one of those people who got terribly upset when their show got canceled, but the closest i’ve been to that person was when veronica mars got canceled.
Not Everything; Everywhere. And Chase is EVERYWHERE!
@TIGOLBITTIES: Strangely, there’s no song stuck in my head, but every so often, for no reason I can understand, your username gets stuck in my head, and I end up chanting it there, like some kind of mantra.
@Tig: My favorite show of all time, without question. I think season 1 of Veronica Mars and season 3 of Big Love are the two most perfect seasons of television ever.
@DahlE: What?!? Even better than the season the Crosby chick shot J.R. Ewing?
@BT: Every time that Chase commercial comes on, I try to guess who sings that song. So it’s not Miley Cyrus, Hilary Duff, Kelly Clarkson or Taylor Swift.
@LSL Catchy, isn’t it?
Chase sucks by the way. I know, I am a customer because they took over WaMu (who sucked considerably less).
Bells- ME TOO! I hate chase! I loved Wamu. I am “dating” new banks now, hopefully I will find one I want to commit to.
LL- wait is Hilary Duff still making music?
Mama P: Yeeeah so I’ve never actually watched Dallas. I can only work with what I know, sweetheart!
My favorite VM song will always be the old David Garza song from the pilot. I used to go see him live all the time in Austin, and didn’t know until later that Rob Thomas as also a former Austinite, so it was like running into your oldest friend in the world randomly in Amsterdam. Which actually happened to me once. Amsterdam, only slightly less pot than early ’90’s Austin.
Sorry, point. Favorite song from a TV show, off the top of my head, “Wild Horses,” the cover by The Sundays, used for the prom on “Buffy.” That song always broke my heart, and in that context, it was a weepfest.
