One place I’ve never been is Omaha.
What skyline stands amid the wheat?
Not knowing mocks me with its gaping maw.
Although I’ve soaked in Hot Springs, Arkansas,
And danced down Forty-Second Street,
One place I’ve never been is Omaha.
What’s local custom and what’s binding law?
Where do the young and single meet?
Not knowing mocks me with its gaping maw.
Dubuque’s passé, the same as Kennesaw;
It’s time to hear another beat.
One place I’ve never been is Omaha.
How do they serve their barbecue and slaw,
And who makes up the town’s elite?
Not knowing mocks me with its gaping maw.
A multitude of questions burn and gnaw.
(Would going make my life complete?)
One place I’ve never been is Omaha.
Not knowing mocks me with its gaping maw.

Villanelle. FTW.
Awesome, Smitros. You make me wish my poetry didn’t suck.
And Vaquero, I haven’t thought of the word “villanelle” in years…that just rocked my world.
Word. (s)
And, hah, you said Kennesaw!
Since I don’t know anything about poetry to give a reasonable comment, I hope its okay to just say that I liked this. It was kind of light and fun.
Yay, Smitros is here! A real poet, and don’t he know it!
Vaq, you beat me to it!
Except I was going to say: ABAABAABAABAABAABAAFTW
The feeling is Mutual.
Aw, shucks, guys.
This was posted while I was away from web things, and I am gratified at the response.
I’ve posted my blog URL to my profile in case you want to know more, and I’ll also be posting more.
@Smitros: Glad to see you here Smitros. Head on over to gravatar.com and import that scary looking rat thing I’m accustomed to seeing next to your name. (Or just use the profile update function that VWS added to this here place.)

@FA:
Thank you.
The armadillo of quality may be a little mangled, but we’ll see what happens.
