Obama Kids’ School Menu Will Make You Hate Your Brown Bag Lunch For The Rest Of Your Life

Sidwell. Also, Sid Eats Well.

TMZ.com got their grubby little hands on a lunch menu from the Sidwell Friends School, where Barack and Michelle Obama’s daughters began attending today. Today, the girls enjoyed grapes, graham crackers, a lovely cheese tortellini with a garden marinara sauce, garlic green beans and clementines. Yes, clementines. Older students got the same items but also got to select from corn chowder and three kinds of salads. THREE. Feeling food-poor yet?

Other items you probably never saw on your lunch menu at your pathetic little backwater school: French dip au jus and cinnamon orange slices (Tuesday); roasted squash and pineapple gratin (Wednesday); pumpkin and sage soup (Thursday); and a tomato mozzarella salad (Friday). Ha ha, don’t feel like an idiot the next time you’re in the lunch-hour line at Wendy’s: we have it on dubious authority* that Sidwell’s pineapple gratin tastes like crap. Plus, at least you can spend your lunch hour texting, Tumblring, surfing the Interwebs or writing here at Wordsmoker – unlike the kids at Sidwell, where Blackberries and cell phones are contraband!

“We do hold students accountable for cyberbehavior,” said Associate Head of School Ellis Turner. “I think our students understand that we expect them to be responsible Internet users.”

Aaaaah, for $30,000 in tuition a year, I’d expect no less than full-on dickishness. And one more thing: Tuition is $30,000 a year. There are 1,000 students at the school. That works out to like $30 million, right? Right. So why in the name of HELL does Sidwell need a fundraising variety show? Tickets and ticket packages go for as much as $400! And don’t assume you can pelt the stage with cinnamon orange slices if the performers suck – remember, Frank Horrigan will be there. (Obama Girls – The Li’l Ladies Who Lunch – TMZ.com)

*That is to say, on no authority whatsover.

Still not as good as pizza Friday! Wash that down with some chocolate milk and you’ve got yourself one hell of a lunch period.

Wrong. Tacos. Thursday. Two big ones, piled with lettuce, tomatoes, shredded cheese, and a big heap of sticky white white (they didn’t bother giving us the yellow rice, because, you know, food coloring is expensive?). :-)

    @ Aaron

I don’t think we even once were served tacos at my school.

    Blueblood.

Yeah, but you had chocolate milk!

Well, yes. We called it “chocolate milk”, but it was really just skim milk with added brown.

So it was more like soy milk sauce?

I really don’t know what the brown was. The lunch ladies just said it was brown.

For $30k in tuition a year, I’d expect flesh of the poors in a white wine sauce.

sweet jesus for the children. you all clearly never had whole nut/wheat bread with crunchy almond butter and organic strawberry jam.

    It was most foul.
    And yet still green.
PS. worst-er meal? tomato soup with mozz at catholic school. Water, tomato chunks, swollen cheese and celery.

Ha! Our private school lunchroom had a large freezer filled with Mayfield Ice Cream products, all you can eat. A real treat for the three girls who weren’t bulimic.

It’s nice there wasn’t a cafeteria smart aleck who put ACORN squash soup on the menu this week.

Okay, well, tomorrow, I’m going to Scott’s Diary Freeze and I’m getting a cheeseburger & french fries & a vanilla shake. Fuck everyone else. That’s what I want. That’s what I’m going to have. New Year’s resolution & clean eating=over.

What good is the Internet if you’re held accountable for your cyberbehavior?

Oh, and yes, I’ll take pizza Friday with a Tasty Klair Pie from the school store for dessert.

I wonder if POTUS has to pay to attend the $400 fundraiser, or if his seat is free as part of the attraction that makes other parents want to pay that price.

Oh, and yes to Meg about the tater tots.

When my school wanted to burnish their lunch menu’s reputation they started serving pomme frites d’Ore-Ida and Untidy Josephs.
